This pair of new zoom lenses from Zeiss offer top end performance for Sony cameras, even under harsh conditions.
The focal lengths complement each other with the 16-35mm zoom ideal for tight spaces or sweeping vistas. Then the 24-70mm zoom is a versatile standard lens with focal lengths that can cope with scenery or zoom in for portrait shots.
Both lenses offer fast f2.8 maximum apertures to help focusing and taking images in low light, and the aperture stays constant over the zoom range.
Sony say that the new lenses have “a rugged dust- and moisture-resistant design,” adding to their appeal as general purpose lenses. According to Sony the new zooms have greatly improved Autofocus performance over their predecessors thanks to their SSM (Super Sonic wave Motor) system and faster, more powerful processing in the lens.
The lenses should achieve legendary ZEISS image quality thanks to ZEISS T* coating on their optical surfaces to minimise ghosting and flare plus aspherical, and ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements to suppress aberration and minimise distortion.
The new zoom lenses fit Sony’s A-mount family of interchangeable lens cameras. Adding an optional mount adaptor makes them compatible with E-mount cameras such as the 7 series.
The new Vario-Sonnar T* 24-70mm F2.8 ZA SSM II (model SAL2470Z2) standard zoom and Vario-Sonnar T* 16-35mm F2.8 ZA SSM II (model SAL1635Z2) wide angle zoom lenses will be available this June for about $US2100 and $US2250, respectively.
